SYNOPSIS

Valley Inn tells the fish-out-of-water story of Emily Mason, a New Jersey college student who finds herself stationed a thousand miles from home in a hot, dusty, dying small southern town, selling books door-to-door for the summer. Through a series of misadventures in “The Bookfield” and her growing friendships with the uniquely comical and endearing residents of Hindsville…like wise and witty Penny Rivers (who secretly frets over the future of her beloved Valley Inn Café since the new highway by-pass re-routed traffic right around "Downtown" Hindsville) and no-nonsense waitress Althea; “The Don Juan of Hindsville,” Gary Noble, a charming ex-rodeo champ just a bit past his prime; 17 year old barrel racer, Callie Anders, who’s gunning for the title “Rodeo Queen,” her unscrupulous father who will do anything to see his daughter wear that crown and his trophy-wife Olivia, an ex-rodeo queen who eases life’s little disappointments with a little Jack Daniels; and Lee Dickson, who seems un-ambitious to the highly motivated Emily (but a good “Book Woman” should know, you can’t judge a book by its cover)…Emily soon discovers what it means to follow your heart.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Originally from Arkansas, Kim has lived and raised her family in New York City for more than 20 years. She has worked as a freelance writer/producer/director of programming and promotion for networks including HBO, Cinemax, The Independent Film Channel, Comedy Central, Bravo, NBC, ABC and Sesame Workshop; directing such notable talent as Chris Rock, Whoopie Goldberg, Bernie Mac, Bill Maher, Kelly Ripa, Kyle McGloughlin, Erykah Badu, Big Bird, Elmo and Cookie Monster. Kim has also written/directed several short films and created the Flywheel Film Festival in NYC, which produced and showcased 18 connected shorts by 18 directors. Kim went home to Arkansas for her feature film directorial debut, ValleyInn; working with cast, crew and soundtrack musicians comprised almost entirely of Arkansans, including Joey Lauren Adams and Academy Award winning actress and songwriter Mary Steenburgen who co-wrote and performed a cameo appearance of the Valley Inn original sound track song "Love in a Small Town" with American Idol winner and fellow Arkansan, Kris Allen. Kim is currently finishing the screenplay for her next project with producing partner, Samara Yeshaiek; a “slacker noir” thriller.
