Where Can I See My Film: Understanding Distribution Channels and Methods
SAT 10/4 // Doors Open 5:30pm // Panel Starts @ 6:00pm

To continue our mission to give independent filmmakers the necessary tools in order to have successful careers, our panel, Where Can I See My Film: Understanding Distribution Channels and Methods, is centered around the various channels that are available to content creators. We'll explore how these channels help to build an audience and learn about the legalities that comes along with distribution.

Featuring:

Peter Gerard: Director of Audience Development and Content Operations, Vimeo

As a teenager in Missouri, Peter Gerard made his first award-winning documentary and founded the Bargain Basement Film Festival. Later, Peter produced and directed a range of documentaries, music videos, and short films, and picked up many awards, including a BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award.

In 2010, Peter founded Distrify to pioneer, direct-to-fan, digital film sales by inventing a shareable movie trailer that included a built-in buy-button and the easiest affiliate rewards system ever. In 2013 Peter won the British Council Creative Enterpreneur Award.

In 2014, Peter joined the team at Vimeo as Director of Audience Development and Content Operations. Peter will be executing and managing marketing partnerships within Vimeo's Audience Development team, focussing on expanding the Vimeo on Demand solution for film sales.

Sam Scupp: Content Manager, FilmBuff

Samantha has been working as Content Manager of FilmBuff for almost two years. Founded in 2007, New York-based FilmBuff is the leading distributor of incomparable digital entertainment.  The company draws upon its deep relationships within the film industry to curate content that consistently informs, entertains and inspires. Serving as a bridge between filmmakers and audiences, FilmBuff actively engages in conversations with fellow entertainment lovers through its exclusive access, original content and unique voice.  Prior to joining the company, Samantha held positions at theatrical distributor FilmDistrict and indie films production company Killer Films.

From 2008 - 2010, Samantha lived in Kumamoto City, Japan, where she worked as an English language teacher. Samantha received a Bachelor of Science degree in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University. 

David Morrison: Executive Director, Cardozo Indie Film Clinic

David Morrison is co-founder and executive director of the Cardozo School of Law’s Indie Film Clinic, a not-for-profit program that provides transactional counsel to independent and documentary filmmakers, and a visiting assistant professor at Cardozo. Since it's launch in January 2011, The Indie Film Clinic has provided legal services to over 50 films, with clients screening at leading U.S. and international film festivals including Cannes, Berlin, South by Southwest, Rotterdam, the Tribeca Film Festival and more. He lectures frequently on legal topics in film production and has presented research at the Intellectual Property Scholars Conference at Stanford and IP for Creative Upstarts at Michigan State University. Professor Morrison received a B.S. in economics from the University of Alabama, his J.D. from the William & Mary College of Law and LL.M. in Intellectual Property from Cardozo.  He currently serves on the Law School Advisory Board of the Association of Media & Entertainment Counsel.

Kelly Anderson: Feature Film Director and Member of New Day Films

Kelly Anderson's most recent film is My Brooklyn, a documentary about gentrification and the redevelopment of Downtown Brooklyn. Her other work includes Never Enough, a documentary about clutter, collecting and Americans' relationships with their stuff, and Every Mother’s Son, a documentary she made with Tami Gold about mothers whose children have been killed by police officers and who have become national spokespeople on police reform. Every Mother’s Son won the Audience Award at the Tribeca Film Festival, aired on POV, and was nominated for a national Emmy for Directing. Kelly's other documentaries include Out At Work (also with Tami Gold), which screened at the Sundance Film Festival and was broadcast on HBO.  She is an Professor in the Department of Film and Media Studies at Hunter College (CUNY).
